Daily Write 3/20/17

My research of my research paper topic has become much more specific and I’ve discovered that not everything, especially something more broad, is easy to write about or find research on. I have read a lot of different views on my topic and seen different people’s points and how they affect their readers. I have read a lot more examples of how male stereotyping can affect women and learned a lot of things I never necessarily thought of before. Seeing both sides of this argument helps as well because you can really see where the counter argument is coming from. They are not necessarily wrong and have reason for what they believe, and, because I understand this, this makes my argument stronger.

Daily Write 3/6/17 Peer review- Annotated bib

Today’s peer review was very helpful to me because I was able to see a lot of great examples of different formatting, ideas, and how others did their conclusions. I am personally struggling with my conclusion and some examples in my annotated bib. Reading other people’s comments on my annotated bib was also very helpful because it gave me advice on some things that I did not necessarily notice on my own.

Daily Write Feb 27th 2017

I found it very interesting the way that the parents from the better school stereotyped these students and hearing both sides from each schools. Especially if these new students are going out of their way to get a better education, if they were really “bad” they would not go out of their way to get a better education. These parents need to consider how bad the other school actually is considering that these leaving students would drive 30+ minutes just to go to a better school

Daily Write 2/15/17 Synthesis Paper concerns/ process

I feel really good about this paper. I really understand both of my sources and have very strong opinions and concerns about the topics with a lot to write about. I really do not have any concerns or questions about this paper. I feel like I am going to do really well with this topic.

Daily write 2/3/17 “What is College for?”

College is for earning a degree so eventually a student can get a job and have a career for the rest of their lives. College is for making a lot of new friends, learning how to prioritize, and most importantly, learning how to be independent. College is also for learning who you are and what your true beliefs are without any push or judgment from parents or anyone else.

Daily Write #5 Feb. 1, 2016

At Ole Miss I have noticed that students expect their teachers to fulfill their every need because they feel like they basically own them, like it was talking about in the Lugo-Lugo piece. I have noticed students just being on their phones or computers and not paying attention in class, or just never coming to class and still expecting an A.

Daily Write #4

I thought it was really interesting on p. 541 in Rereading America how he explained homophobia and how it really affects men. It’s not as much a fear of gay people, it is more of a fear of men and being called gay and verbally or even physically abused. This passage especially challenged me because I had never thought of homophobia or male stereotypes in that way and how much guys have to live up to. I found it interesting when he said women automatically think a man is gay if they are sentimental or emotional or even a good listener if they care at all.

Daily Write #3 1/27/17 “What connections have you made this week?”

I have made a few connections this week. Rereading America has really broadened my horizons on sexual abuse and violence mainly towards women all over the country. The essay “The Longest War” has an overwhelming amount of statistics about women and just how awful the violence has gotten. This is absolutely insane. If sexual violence has gotten so bad that people around the world are having to protest and write books and everything else, something is seriously wrong and has been wrong for a long time. People do not like to talk about something that makes them uncomfortable so they avoid it, but this topic should be unavoidable. Why aren’t people more informed of things going on in the world? The statistics are so unbelievable it is impossible to avoid, but people try to anyway. It is so sad. This should not be okay. This has been the biggest realization to me this week.

Daily Write #2 bridge project gallary walk 1/25/17

The gallary walk today helped me realize how other people may think of America and that not everyone is optimistic. Some people have gone through a lot worse things than I have that possibly made them this way so it may be hard for them to see the optimistic side of America and our freedoms that we are able to have.

New Semester Resolutions 1/23/17

This semester, I would like to take more time for myself. This past semester I was so busy the whole time and just rushed through everything because I was so preoccupied. Me changing my major will help me have a lot more time than I did because it does not take as much time as being a music major. I was so stressed out last semester trying to balance practicing almost 8 or 9 hours a week, going to class, completing 8 study hours for luckyday a week, band, color guard, and everything else I had going on personally. I was being pulled every which way so my goal this semester is to balance my schedule more efficiently, try to be less stressed, and take more time for myself.
