Police Department Haunted House

Although, trick-or-treating is the objective for many children this Halloween haunted houses are a spectacle for many of them looking for a scare too.
Parents can be creeped out by going door to door trick-or-treating, so while looking for alternative options this haunted house may surprise them.
It is a long-time tradition for the Southaven Police Department, the City of Southaven and the Police Explorer Post 2623 to host the haunted house at the Southaven police department on Halloween every year, so children in Desoto County can do both.
The Southaven Police Explorer Post 2623 is for young women and men who want to become police officers and allows them to explore the field. This community service outreach program is designed for all ages.
“They give up their time every Halloween to give back to the community,” Sargent Bill Kjellin, at the Southaven Police Department said. “For their community service, they put on this haunted house and give some folks some scares. We give back to the young kids, so it is some place safe they can go and get candy and have a good time.”
In past years, there was not a room set up for the little kids, but rather the officers would turn on the lights and walk them through the haunted house area. Something new this year is that the smaller children can also enjoy the haunted house because the Police Wives Auxiliary has set up a room for children nine and under.
“This year the Southaven Police Department’s wives have a little organization and they have gotten together on the other side of the building, we have a little trail that is kind of connected to the Wizard of OZ,” Captain Mark E. Little, at the Southaven Police Department said. “The smaller children who might be scared of this part of it can go over there and see the tin man and all of the people involved with the Wizard of OZ…It’s not scary at all.”
There will be police officers and police explorers acting in the haunted house.
“I am going to be dressed up as Frankenstein,” Sargent Kjellin said. “I will be walking through helping people get through that gets stuck that’s too scared. I also will be doing some scaring myself and making sure everyone is having a good time.”
The event will be held on October 31st between the hours of 5:30 pm and 7:45 pm and is a public event.
“We would like to invite everybody, the city of Southaven and DeSoto County to come down,” “We have tons of candy that was donated and all packaged by our VIPs. We hope to have a fun time.”
