Casual Argument Proposal Draft
At the start of my research, I asked the question, “Why do so many Americans develop pessimistic perceptions of crime in America despite what actual crime statistics show?” I believe this is a prevalent question to ask considering the widespread news coverage of police officers being involved in the shootings and killings of unarmed, often African American, teenagers. This detrimental view of crime portrayed by the media paints negative perceptions of police officers, racial groups, and crime. Such tragic incidents also justify why some people blame guns and the “lack of gun control” for the crime rate in America, sparking a conflicting battle between American citizens who strive to see more regulations regarding gun laws and those who are angered by the thought of their right to bear arms being taken away. My research suggests that the crime rate in America has been declining over the past two decades; however, the depiction of crime portrayed by the media increases negative public perceptions of crime by Americans.
For my casual argument, I plan to observe the casual relationship between the crime rate in America as well as the percentage of Americans believing crime has increased since previous years. Data obtained from the FBI and composed into the Uniform Crime Report shows that America experienced it’s highest rate of reported violent crimes in 1992 (1,932,274) but has sense been on a steady decline (in 2014, the number of reported crimes was 1,165,3838). However, A 2015 Gallup poll showed that 70% of Americans believe that the crime rate in America has increased since the year before.

Many researcher have tried to explain why young women living in poverty are more likely to have kids in their teens, and have concluded that growing up with few economic prospects can lead young women to choose teen parenting. The cycle of poverty is a controversial topic in today’s society and have many contributing factors. Focusing mainly on the connection of teen pregnancy and poverty is more controversial because these are two enlightened topics that causes many problems in our growing world. Studies reveal many different factors for this (include factors found in research). . . Impoverished teens, however, do not always feel motivated to work toward future planning because they have a poor sense of self-efficacy, and because of this, they may not see the importance of avoiding pregnancy.

Wilson, Angie D., and Richard C. Jr. Henriksen. “Moral Development And The Phenomenon Of Absent Fathers.” The handbook of educational theories. 607-614. Charlotte, NC, US: IAP Information Age Publishing, 2013. PsycINFO. Web. 6 Mar. 2016.
Moral Development and the Phenomenon of Absent Father strictly explains the phenomena of an absent father in the United States. The authors of this source provides factual statistics on how an absent father affects the entire family as a whole. They explain the effect the fathers play on their developing children. According to the source, the authors correlated the absence of fathers with the behavior of their children. They perceived that the absence of a father figure negatively affects the child’s behavior. According to the source, children who are not associated with a father figure are more prone to crimes and explicit drug abuse. Overall, the authors constantly dissected how the morals of the American society have fallen due to the absence of fatherly figures within families of the United States.
This article serve as an excellent guide for someone seeking the negative impacts of an absent father on the American family and society. This source is excellent because the authors provided many different details that outline what effects an absent father could make on the development of the family and people in it. The statements made within the paper were very precise and allows the reader to understand what tolls an absent father could take on the development of children and the society around them. I think that this source is most definitely orchestrated to aid someone in a larger project. It would allow them to use cause and effects tactics to exploit negative causes of having an absent father. I would use this article in a larger project to help support my reasons against inconsiderate fathers.

Matthews, Dylan. “The Tuition is Too Damn High, Part III — The three reasons tuition is rising.” 28 August 2013. The Washington Post. Web. 27 February 2016.
Matthews provide illustrations and research information from the Delta Cost Project. The point of this article is to show the readers a breakdown of the main causes of rising tuition, with the three different scenarios stated. Within the breakdown is what’s happening, where’s it happening, number of students enrolled, and an explanation. The intended audience is for individuals affected by the topic, why tuition is rising. The information discussed in the article by Matthews is very useful to anyone interested with the topic. Matthews uses more than one particular college, he uses private, public, and community colleges. Matthews also discusses the different problems each college has to address. Credibility in this article is very visible; the sources used to gather the information are based on the Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). A gap in this source is it doesn’t include information from specific ethnic backgrounds and how it effects them. (CONNECT TO OTHER SOURCES IN BIB.) This source is helpful to me, because I can include the data about the different problems colleges face. It will be an illustration of the actual numbers. I haven’t changed my mind about my topic, this is evidence that strengthens my desire to look further into the factors that affect the cost of tuition.

“While the threat of ransomware isn’t exactly new, high-profile cases like this suggest the severity of an attack’s impact can be crushing, especially as hackers move from targeting individuals to bigger fish such as companies and major institutions like the hospital.” (CBSNews). I propose conducting additional research about the “increase of cyber ransoms and cyber attacks happening all around America” to learn more about reasons and causes of this problem. Why is it that cyber attacks and cyber ransoms suddenly arise across America attacking individuals and industries without our country fighting back or attempting to stop the issue? What can be done to reduce the attacks and protect our country?
