For this project we were assigned to create an infographic about any topic we enjoyed as long as it related to digital literacy. Digital writing is not just about writing these days. It is important to adapt to what is digitally popular. Infographics are recently becoming very popular as it is a quick way to learn a lot of information. In addition, the visuals associated with the information draw in the reader’s attention and allow them to better retain what they are reading.

For this project I chose to cover the topic of how the rise of ADHD diagnoses correlates with the rise of Internet usage. While one is not caused by the other, it is being discovered that they have a positive relationship. Because this research is so new and there is so much that is still unknown, I chose a dark background. The background is dark blue with  a picture at the top of the world being connected by light blue light strokes. This was meant to resemble how the Internet is constantly connecting us and also gave an extraterrestrial, ominous feel. Just as we do not know much about outer space, we are still so unaware of the effects the Internet may have on us since it is so new. The deep blue background is contrasted with light colored font and images. Overall, I think the infographic is visually pleasing and conveys my message properly.

My audience for this piece is mainly parents and possibly millennials. By viewing this research and being aware of how these habits are affecting us, maybe we can correct the behavior or find a solution. I hope that by viewing the picture displaying the fact that one in ten children are diagnosed with ADHD today really “hit home” with parents. Maybe after discovering these hard hitting facts, they will limit their children’s Internet usage. Obviously, this will not fix the problem completely, but it can be used to help prevent making the condition worse.
