A Vision of Students today

The message that is portrayed in this video I believe is very accurate actually. From a first hand experience, I believe that real world experience is where we gain knowledge and not in the classroom. We spend hundreds of dollars on textbooks that we will never read and take classes that have no importance in our lives. I try to enroll in classes that will actually help me in my career rather than taking geology 105 with 300 other people and sit on my laptop the whole class scrolling through Facebook. During classes that require me to have my laptop, I spend the time doing actually work on my computer for the classes that actually matters. I gained a lot of my knowledge from working in New York City since I was 10 years old. There I spent time actually learning a specific trade and interacted with people who are going to be in my field of work after I graduate. I do believe that some classes are important and some textbooks are needed, but todays society revolves around technology and it only going to get worse. As years go on, technology improves which means that the technology in classrooms starts to improve as well. There will be more ways to teach with the new technology and that means new devices will emerge on the market. I don’t mean to sound like I am bashing technology, because most of the time it is extremely helpful and most teachers require you to bring your laptop to class. But the internet is a wild animal, at the click of a button you can find an answer to anything.

  1. I think you are probably right. So many general education classes just don’t apply to your success in the real world (though I did enjoy geology!). I don’t think we should get rid of them, though, I think we should try to use technology to make them more practical, and make things like life/work experience count more than the do in the process of getting a degree.
