Number 3 in the Fast Facts of Section 1 (Family section), I read that “More than 400,000 American children live in some form of foster care” (16).
On the way home about a month ago, I heard this story from NPR about a young man who graduated from the foster care system in California. He used his final hearing to express his thoughts about the challenges he had to overcome as a product of the state foster system. This has inspired me to learn more about foster kids in our country. Mississippi has a high number of students waiting for foster care and is currently going through a critical shortage in foster families.
