The main character wants to portray the life of which he sees on television because he does not have that type of life. They were somewhat of a poor family. I would say middle class, enough to pay the bills and live month by month. This short story shows how people will work hard to make ends meet and to get the things that they want also. At the end of the day he said it ended right. He is saying that he made the 15 cents that he wanted and that he felt good about working.
