I was really interested in #5 on the Fast Facts in the Money and Success section. It says, “In no state can a worker afford a one-bedroom apartment on the minimum wage without spending more than 30% of his/her income on housing” (346).
I hear a lot about legislation to increase the minimum wage, and I often hear pros and cons of this. This reminds me of a 30 Days episode with Morgan Spurlock (creator of the documentary SuperSize Me) in which he and his fiancee live for 30 days on minimum wage jobs. It’s an eye-opener about just how difficult day-to-day living is on such low incomes. The episode is embedded below:
