Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words  In the article “Sponsors of Literacy,” Brandt explains how history influences literacy and also how it affects the way people learn today. She discusses how the people in our lives are influential aspects in literacy. There is also other aspects that influence our literacy.  Brandt also explains the “literacy crisis” which she defines as the gap between peoples ability to reach expected literacy standards that keep rising. Literacy can influence us and we also have an influence on literacy.

  1. My name is Caroline Elam and I am from Olive Branch, MS. When it comes to writing I am good at having strong research skills. One thing I am not so good at is formatting my sources using MLA format.
  2. I would like a peer group who will correct me when my work is wrong but in a nice way and makes it easy to understand what they think is wrong with my paper. I am comfortable communicating whenever it is necessary so that I can continue to make my work better.

Identity reflection blog post

My race has had an impact on my identity. Although being a white female has it advantages there is also disadvantages. Many people of other races see white women, especially teenagers, as people who are stuck up and depend on their parents for everything. When I first meet people they also assume that I am racist just because I am white. All of these examples have had impacted my identity because that is how many people view me even though it is not true. I can connect to the twitter thread because just like Kimmy in the end of the thread, I don’t let what other people think get to me. No matter how people view me or my race I wouldn’t change my race because it makes me who I am and helped form my identity.

Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words  In the article Elbow describes the way he teaches and how it affects the students without a background in standard written english. He believes students should be able to express their writing in their own way and it should not be labeled as wrong. He lets his students create their writing in their own way and then at the end of the assignment he makes them translate it into standard written english. I agree with Elbow that students should be able to write in their own way without it being considered wrong or right. He is “trying to to make the writing classroom a safer place for such language than most other sites of language use”.

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research? 

  

 It connects to my own research because I also believe students should be able to write in their own ways without it being labeled wrong.

“Podcast Round Table Reflection” 

  1. One piece of advice I think would be useful would be to not procrastinate. This piece of advice is useful because it helps you keep up with your work and you also feel so much better when you finish it early. Another piece of advice that is useful is to do all the work you are assigned. This will help you become a better writer.  
  2. One of the things I am looking forward to the most is being in a sorority and all the events they have. One of things I am looking forward to the least is wearing face mask everywhere and having limited things to do because of Corona. 
  3. There are many pieces of advice I could give to a student entering senior year, but one of them is to embrace every second of high school. Never take anything for granted because you never know when it can be taken away from you.
