A adverse childhood experience (ACE) is a type of trauma that a child goes through in or out of the home environment. Toxic stress explains how that piece of trauma effects the child and triggers biological reactions that can lead to negative or bad outcomes.
Poverty, racism, and violence can heavily impact a child’s development. Most people in poverty can not afford or don’t have access to the education the children need so their development is a lot slower than most other children. Race impacts a child’s development socially because many people seem to believe the stereotypes of race and then they tend to treat them differently based on their race. Violence affects children’s development because if they go through physical or emotional violence it takes a negative toll on their psychological aspect of their minds.
Adverse childhood experiences affects literacy because some children are not able to have the access other children do which means they are not able to learn everything they need to learn. Some other ACE examples also affect literacy because it takes a toll on the children’s mind which can affect the ability to learn.
