The filmmakers purpose for making this “Calorie Detective” video is to inform people about what they are actually eating and that food places really just put any calorie count up there because it is by law, but they don’t have the completely exact count for each thing on the menu. The filmmakers audience is anyone who will watch, anyone who goes to the store and buys pre-made meals, anyone who eats fast food and anyone who eats food in general. Casey Neistat uses ethos in his film making because he shows his trustworthiness through going to actual food researchers and finding out the exact calories found in everything that is eaten by people and he also shows this through his tone. He sounds excited to inform people and show more about what is actually in our food and that food places do not always have the right calorie count. This Op-Doc is different from “Toys of War” because that filmmaker used a pathos appeal. “Toys of War” was shown as a way to get to peoples hearts and show the effects of war and how bad their country has it, while “Calorie Detective” is an informing video about the food in our country.

Project #1 Unit Reflection
My writing skills have improved as a result to completing this first assignment because I never used to try to incorporate any actual evidence into my papers I would mostly just paraphrase the text.
This paper reflected my weakness in writing a thesis statement because I do not know how to come up with a strong thesis and when I think and think and think about it I just don’t seem to ever come up with a good strong thesis. I also think that I babble in my work and say the same things over, but say them in a different way or draw them out t0o long.
The most stressful part of this writing assignment I think was creating the thesis statement which I do no think I ended successfully and also just trying to figure out the wording and how I wanted my words to be relayed in the writing piece. Also trying to set up how to write the essay.
I want to be sure to remember the different styles of writing pieces and how to write a strong thesis statement.
