- How did Dr.Mona’s actions make a difference in the community of Flint?
- It allowed the community of Flint to not only have a good source of water but in the long run a less possibility of long term cognitive repercussions from the water.
- Can you think of a time in your own life when you have made other people aware of a problem that they were not aware of?
- I personally can’t think of a time where I was the one making people aware of a problem but There have been a few instances where I have been made aware of a problem. I was once hanging out with my friends in our Dutch Bros parking lot and there was about twenty of us in the back of everybody trucks. But it was super late probably around 11:30 at night on a Friday. We always go to this place on fridays just to hangout. Some more people started to show up but they were from another school in our town and our two schools were “rivals” in almost every sport. So right off the bat there was tension. But the night went on and eventually somebody had been told that that group of kids had brought a gun. And so that spread like wildfire and everyone started running and getting into cars and freaking out. But me and a friend were further down in the line of cars and neither of us had heard anything. So we immediately start freaking out because we didn’t know what was happening until I got a phone call from my friend who was almost in tears saying she had saw the gu nand that we needed to leave.
- What can you do as an individual to make the world a better and safer place?
- I can spread kindness. Doesn’t have to be anything huge. Just a smile could change someone’s day.

Isabella Van Klaveren Peer Group Resume
-
A short intro. Name at least one thing you’re good at and one thing you want to improve in terms of writing.
Isabella Van Klaveren, I am really good at coming up with ideas, but really bad at getting those ideas down onto paper and making them complete.
-
Let us know what you want out of a peer group (like what kind of feedback you prefer, how often you’re comfortable communicating).
Good and detailed corrections, if needed harsh criticism is never taken personally. I am comfortable communicating everyday maybe not the weekends but other than that I am pretty much free at all times.

Are you choosing Option 2 of the “A-Grade.” YES or NO (Remember, there are other options, so choose the best fit for you).
No, I would like to do option 1 so it gives me more time to reflect on what I’ve personally accomplished thus far.

While reading the article by Peter Elbow I was really interested to hear more because I have always heard people talk about the do’s and don’t’s of writing when we write formal essays and such. But when reading this article it made me think about more than just formal writing in my essays, it was relatable enough that it allowed me to really think about how I text and write emails. I know emails are supposed to be formal and I try my hardest to keep them that way, but sometimes I spend so much time texting that I forget how to correctly write an email. |

Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author.
“Standard Written English is the usage, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling that will pass muster with most university faculty around here as correct or at least acceptable. Faculty members will differ from each other a bit, but on most of these language matters, they will agree.”

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?
It connects with other readings I’ve done in class because it talks about the dos and don’ts for writing papers, emails, and pretty much anything. |
|
Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion.
Why is there a certain standard for english writing, isn’t the ability to write supposed to be giving those writing freedom to say what they like. |
- One thing that they talked about that I will take with me is being respectful, I think that that will help with getting further in the class and being able to get things done quickly and efficiently.
- I am really looking forward to getting to know my classmates and going to football games and I am not looking forward to finals.
- Do not procrastinate, and read all the books. Be respectful to teachers and classmates.
