While reading the article by Peter Elbow I was really interested to hear more because I have always heard people talk about the do’s and don’t’s of writing when we write formal essays and such. But when reading this article it made me think about more than just formal writing in my essays, it was relatable enough that it allowed me to really think about how I text and write emails. I know emails are supposed to be formal and I try my hardest to keep them that way, but sometimes I spend so much time texting that I forget how to correctly write an email. |

“Standard Written English is the usage, grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling that will pass muster with most university faculty around here as correct or at least acceptable. Faculty members will differ from each other a bit, but on most of these language matters, they will agree.”

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?
It connects with other readings I’ve done in class because it talks about the dos and don’ts for writing papers, emails, and pretty much anything. |

Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion.
Why is there a certain standard for english writing, isn’t the ability to write supposed to be giving those writing freedom to say what they like. |
- One thing that they talked about that I will take with me is being respectful, I think that that will help with getting further in the class and being able to get things done quickly and efficiently.
- I am really looking forward to getting to know my classmates and going to football games and I am not looking forward to finals.
- Do not procrastinate, and read all the books. Be respectful to teachers and classmates.
