Final Reflection

The fact that over a year has passed since I graduated from high school is astounding, in what feels like a blur over the course of a short year has been a montage of lifetime experiences and memories that I will hold with me forever. It feels wrong to say we are a quarter of the way finished with college, as the time goes by at an increasingly rapid pace we are left to confront the harsh realities and responsibilities of adulthood as individuals.

Beginning the year at Ole Miss I was filled with eager anticipation and wonder as to what college would hold in store for me throughout the coming years. In my first week of college I was introduced to the friendly and supportive nature of the campus through the actions and behaviours of my fellow peers. Wherever I went I was greeted and conversed with strangers who had similar interests as myself, I had to adapt to becoming an extrovert in order to compensate for my lack of known acquaintances in the Mississippi area. This tremendously improved my ability to be outgoing and meet new people, something I struggled with throughout my life due to my introverted nature. Additionally throughout my schoolwork I had to adjust towards the college academic environment in a multitude of fashions completely modifying my approach on taking notes, studying habits and preparing for exams. During this time of adaptation I was taught the value and importance of responsibility to oneself, as well as their duty to set expectational goals achievable through the determination and motivation one exerts. Although I have gained many crucial skills that will prove beneficial to my life, the consequences developed from the coronavirus pandemic have taken a toll upon certain aspects of my character that are visible after a year in quarantine. Noticeably I recognize the negative shift in my daily activity level resulting from my lack of motivation to make plans, which has increasingly become an impending issue affecting my health. Furthermore I have noticed a difference in not just the behaviour of myself but of society progressively placing emphasis on the necessity of decreased social interaction, harming the economy as well as all those in the community. Throughout this trying time many have exemplified their perseverance towards a sense of normalcy to minimal avail, even so those who have prospered have given hope to strugglers searching for a remedy.

Reflecting on the past year given the chaotic sequence of events and treasured memorable experiences contributing towards how I have evolved as a person, I can clearly identify the key moments in which I learned crucial lessons positively influencing my goals. In many instances the confrontations influence myself to determine a factor which may better aid me towards a future conflict. Although college has not gone how I presumed it would with parties round the clock and a very difficult work ethic, the memories I have created with the friends I’ve made are irreplaceable and genuine critical moments in my lifetime.

School Lunches

There are many distinct factors that come to mind when I think of school lunches, the loud commotion of chatter all across the large cafeteria is the first thing that comes to mind because I distinctly remember just how loud that place can get especially when something gets everyone riled up. Which brings me into my next topic which was the daily drama that happened during lunch there was always some big thing that would happen like to boys fighting or something of the sort. I always had the cafeteria food as a kid because it was not all that bad our school had Chik fil a and dominos everyday in the cafeteria so we were pretty grateful for that.

How do you Define a Writer?

“A writer does not have to be published to consider him or herself a true writer”(Defining a Writer – WritingMag) There are many different ways you could characterize, define or picture a writer, some may describe them as nosy or irritating while others may characterize them as sophisticated scholars. It is all a matter of perspective, and from my personal experience and point of view I have observed that writers or journalists have a sort of different mindset than per say an accounting or economics major. They look at the world through a different lens, one that aids them in creating their work. I myself as a writer have excelled through my classes teaching language arts and english, but I could never write something I thoroughly enjoyed. I see myself as a potentially strong writer who does not know how to take the correct approach towards his work.

10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation

In Celeste Headlee’s Ted Talk she primarily described all the ways in which we fail to pay attention but rather just try to show it through eye contact or nodding our head. She then takes the time to demonstrate that if you are really paying attention there should be no need to pretend to look as if you are. With this she springs her discussion into the long list of what you can do to better improve your conversational skills. Containing ten tactics one of which stuck with me because i do often see myself struggling with; letting your thoughts flow. What she means is when you’re listening to a story and you remember something pertaining to that you stick on that and then don’t listen to the rest of what they are saying. I find myself doing this frequently which is why I took this and am trying to better myself in this way.

Rhetorical Analysis of a Social Media Post

“So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!”

The tweet shown above was posted on the social media platform Twitter. This tweet was published by President Donald Trump. Trump is currently the active president of the United States of America. Although President Donald Trump uses other social media platforms to spread information, it seems as though twitter is his primary source for reaching out to the public and addressing topics such as the one above.

In this tweet President Donald Trump expresses tremendous concerns towards the voting mail drop boxes. Which he then stresses is a voter security disaster as these boxes could easily be tampered with or unsecured. This and the fact that citizens could easily vote multiple times is a huge discomfort to the president and many others. Another point the president aimed at was the topic of who exactly was controlling these mail in voting boxes, and more specifically are they placed in certain areas by these people, Democratic populated zones or Republican? President Donald Trump then goes into the fact of the COVID-19 pandemic saying how these mail in boxes are not even sanitized properly for covid and how they could pose a threat to your health and others. Finally President Trump displays his amassed view on the situation debasing it as a big fraud.

Throughout this post on twitter the president expresses his overall concerns towards the entire fiasco, displaying his reasoning as a list with background information to persuade the American people that this fraudulent scam will not be taken lightly and he will find an end to this, as this would corrupt our government. To further amplify what he is saying the president takes short sentences describing the problems with these machines and orders them in a row to greater catch the magnitude of this topic and how tremendously it can impact the world we live in today.

President Donald Trump’s main purpose and goal throughout this tweet is to portray to the american people the informalities and conflicts that have arisen from these mail in vote boxes. Persuading people to take action and not stand for this, to call for in person voting only nd cast away the mail in vote boxes.

ACE’s & Toxic Stresses

Traumatic events that occur in childhood, include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from traumatic experiences can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress.

Toxic stresses like poverty, racism and violence can impact development severely in a number of different ways including future drug or alcohol dependency, unfit manners of aggression and possible mental and physical health problems. Sometimes a social problem is developed which can lead to a state of depression and loneliness.

Reading Journal for Murray

Title of Article + Proper MLA Citation for Works Cited page Donald M. Murray “The Maker’s Eye.”
Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words The article goes into a deep learning experience into the mind of a writer showcasing the creative writing process and the steps and ways through it. He explains it as being like a mechanic or carpenter or any other regular job, portraying how much like a mechanic takes a step back to rev the engine of a car to make sure it sounds clean a writer must reread his work to assure the fact that the sentences have an important structure and the plot has a steady rhythm and tone. In conclusion the article helps to develop the idea that writing is in fact like any other job where hard work pays off.
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author. A piece of writing is never finished. It is delivered to a deadline, torn out of the typewriter on demand, sent off with a sense of frustration and incompleteness.” The author is saying that every piece of writing has more to it than when it’s sent out to publish.

This reading connects to some of our other articles through explaining ho

w writing makes a massive impact on the society, the difference i found was the dictation of the writing process in this article though.

Andrea R. Fishman. “ A Lesson From the Amish.” Language Arts , December 1987, Vol. 64, No. 8

Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words The article dives into a complex and in depth look into the vast differences and similarities concerning the definition, usage and knowledge of literacy. Specifically how the Amish portray it versus how the modern day world represents the idea.
