The author explores different ways to define a genre or create a work of art that is in the given genre. Kerry Dirk uses the Country genre in music as a main example in this essay. He asks the question- “ But what would happen if I wanted to write a country song that didn’t do any of the [aforementioned characteristics of a country song]? Would it still be a country song?” (250). The goal of this essay is to show the audience what a genre truly is and expand the meaning of the word and show how genres function in art. |
