From today’s zoom class, I will remember to be brief, and to make my argument intriguing to readers in order to keep their interest. My partners are Katelan and Ann Jordyn Ewing.
Daily Writes
Daily Write #17
My target audience when writing my argument essay was mainly to the youth of the world, although the subject was applicable to most age groups. This time, when writing an Op-Ed, my audience will most likely be readers from various ages. More specifically, I predict college students or senior citizens. These are the people I think would most read my op-ed. Since the audience has been widened, I will try to include more factual evidence, as to not overwhelm readers with my opinion since I am a member of the youth. This will help me come across as less biased. Additionally, since this is an Op-Ed, I assume there is a bit of leniency in formality or tone, which I will be pleased to convey.
Daily Write #15
From the multimodality module, I will remember the limit of showing videos or movies, which is up to 10%, and that there are only five modes of modality.
Daily Write #14
Thanks to my peer, I have more confidence in my writing. I will double check and revise my work to improve clarity, and make sure everything is properly cited, as I otherwise see no obvious errors.
Daily Write #13
After reading my professor’s kind, and very helpful, comments, I have added more information from my second source in order to relate it to my third source. Additionally, I have tried to cite in places where I could not, or did not, paraphrase. I have also added a works cited page. Thank you so much, the comments were very illuminating and helpful!
Daily Write #11
Based upon my peer’s comments, I will place my thesis statement better, or re-organize it to fit the flow of the paper. Also, I will add information about what shame culture is, because reader’s may be unfamiliar. I will also move this information to the introduction or first body paragraph.
Daily Write #10
Hanna-Attisha shows fear over being judged and critized if she fails to deliver regarding the flint water crisis. the New York Times article discusses in depth the problem and social impact of a guilt/shame society or culture. Hanna Attisha was debating on whether to speak up about a water crisis, or not in fear of society’s judgement. this shows the impact of social media in our world today, and is discussed in the New York Times article as well. Hanna- Attisha might agree with the new york times author on the danger that social media poses to one’s mental health, especially because she is an immigrant from an authoritarian regime. they might disagree on the specific effects of the shame culture, since Hanna-Attisha is more familiar with that culture.
Daily Write #9 Choosing A Prompt
Which prompt are you choosing and why? What personal connections do you have to this topic? What potential biases might you have? If you have these biases, what can you do to ensure that they don’t interfere with your ability to be objective about your topic? (50-100 words)
-I have chosen the first prompt, because I am heavily interested in the impact of social media, and the danger that it brings to today’s youth. This might be my bias, as I am against the over-saturation of media. To avoid bias, I will acknowledge and become informed of the opposing side.
Daily Write #8
From the zoom class, I am now better informed about synthesis writing, and what it is. I clearly remember the meme that was shown that said: “…one does not just summarize” in regards to synthesizing!
Daily Write #7
I fully comprehend and agree with my instructor’s kind critiques. I expected some of them, and I’m glad to have helpful feedback. From here on out, I will try my best to ensure to quotations are cited parenthetically, and I will add quotes where needed to strengthen the overall appeal of the essay!
