To me, the difference between a popular and academic sources would be the credibility. The qualities of the academic sources seem more reliable, and verifiable because they have been criticized and corrected. Popular sources, however, aren’t held to the same strictness of fact checking. Although I think both are useful in their own way; it depends on the perspective.

For my synthesis essay, I have chosen “The Disappearance of Hunger in America” by Patricia Allen, and “The Food Desert” by Jennifer Wehunt. I initially chose these two because the term “Food Insecurity” sounded intriguing. Ironically enough, my thesis is based on the power and allure of words. Both of these articles, though, are great selections and synthesize easily enough. Not to add to my word count, I would like to commend my instructor on her great selection!
