Post Class Critical Thinking Assessment

With this critical thinking post-class assessment I have determined that I am able to determine the credibility of evidence and determine whether the information holds relevance to my research. I also determined that I was really good at and comfortable with using primary and secondary sources in my own research. When it comes to arguments it is easy for me to understand the main intentions and ideas of the person who originally wrote it. Then also with arguments if there is a problem I am pretty good at defining it and explaining them. Then if I have any thoughts towards this argument I am able to logically derail them to others. Overall what this all goes to show is that with my work I am now a better writer who is more aware of the things she is reading and writing.

Student Paper Analysis

The first thing I notice is that there was no heading with the MLA that includes the writer’s name and date; this may just be because it is a sample. If it was intentionally left out this could be seen as a weakness for both. In terms of the “You Better Think” paper I would say the strengths include being informative with what they are writing about. While it is not something use to I like how she sectioned off what each paragraph was about. I also like how the genres she got from the interview is what was included in the paper. I do think there should have been a little for depth and information in regards to the interview just so the writer can have a little insight. With the additional paper about Puerto Rican Students I like how they included a little more about their questioning process with who they interviewed. In terms of weakness I don’t see much I just think a little more information about the source of this knowledge would be helpful to others.

Discourse Communities Reflection

While reading about the discourse communities, I mostly obtained a definition of what it is and looks like. With discourse, communities are initially where a group of people shares a common interest and idea of expectations, participation, and ways of expression. Then you have the concept of communities of practice. This is when a group of complex people shares a way of being that may be different compared to other organizations. I think these definitions were explained with a verbal representation of what these communities could potentially look like and involve. When it comes to the groups that I involve myself in, they vary. I am a part of the swimming community, and I have been for the past 12 years. I am a part of the black circle that involves people that look at me and have potentially had similar experiences. I have also named myself as a part of the wannabe makeup guru organization. It’s just a place to grow and develop my skills in terms of makeup. I am a member of those who have experience living in a single-parent household. While many people could live in these circumstances, the reasons may vary! Then lastly, I am in the community of being a Christan. My faith has become something fundamental to me during my time in quarantine, which I am very aware and appreciative of.

Daily Writes

These are 5 minute or less quick writes that we’ll complete in class most days. This will also include any in-class writing about the readings that we do. If you don’t bring your tablet/laptop to class every day or if you prefer writing on paper during class, you’ll need to type up and post these after class.
