Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words	This article mainly talks about the art of argument. In the article Jones talks about how there is always a winner and a loser of an argument just like when there is a war. Jones also says that just like in war when you take a new position you can do that exact thing in an argument. Also mentioned in the article is politics. Politics has and will always be just a lot of arguing such as the presidential debate this past night.
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author.	Argument as collaboration would be more closely linked to words such as dialogue and deliberation, cornerstone concepts in the history of American democracy.

1. Adverse childhood experiences come in many different ways. They can come in ways such as physical abuse, mental abuse, neglect, and even just not being accepted by your household. Toxic stressors are the same thing as adverse childhood experiences because they both are struggles and adversity that a child has to go through.
2. Poverty, racism, and violence all can affect a child’s development in so many ways. For someone that has to go through these adversities their development can take major shots for the worse. The development of a child creates the basis of their entire lives. Poverty can affect a child’s development because a bad home life will affect the mental health of the child. Racism can affect the confidence of the child if they are continuously getting scrutinized for his or her race. 
3. Adverse childhood experiences can affect literacy because if someone does not even have the chance to go to school they will probably never learn correct literacy.  

1. Mona saved countless lives by publishing a study that exposed the lead in the water in Flint, Michigan. The study made President Obama declare a federal emergency. Obama declaring the lead problem a federal emergency gave money to Flint so that they could recover from this. Dr. Mona gave everything she had to ensure that the future of Flint would be good and healthy. She saved lives today and what could have been many more in the future if this is was not addressed.
2. My time where I noticed something is much different from Dr. Mona and no where close to as important as her study. But I was the captain for my soccer team and as the season was near, I realized important fundamentals that we lacked that my coach did not even notice. We were able to work out the problem and we made it all the way to the playoffs that year.
3. As an individual I can potentially change the world with every choice I make. In todays world everyone can change the world. When people think of changing the world, they think of someone really famous that could be their idol. But every single job is a world changing job because without them the world would not function right. We all work together to make the world better. My point is that I believe I can change the world by just being the best at what I am meant to be.

1. Literacy means a lot to me because I am a very outgoing person and without literacy I would not be able to communicate over social media or talk about articles or books we have read. Also without literacy I would not be able to expand my knowledge and reach my goals in life

3. A scene with my sponsor of literacy would be pretty much anytime with my dad as a child. As must kids look up to their dads I did as well but maybe a lot more than others. My dad is a very successful man and that did not come easy because he worked for everything he has and what has given me. As a child my dad always told me to read because it expands our knowledge. When I was 12 years old my dad gave me a book by John Grisham and it was called The Kid Lawyer. This book sparked my interest in what was my dream career for multiple years. I read the entire series over and over because I just loved everything about the novels. One of the best parts is that my dad also read them so we had deep talks about each o the books, the plots, and even our theories.

Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words	In this article I noticed many things about the Amish life that set my life apart that I never knew before. In a normal American household like mine we grow up competing in sports meeting people at social events and then we stay connected through our phones. That is one thing that sets our culture apart from the Amish. The Amish grow up writing. And yes, I grew up writing too but in the Amish culture reading is one of the biggest things in their culture. And even as adults such as Eli and Anna in the article; they participate in circle letters with people that have the same background, interests, or anything else that the have in common. What I got out of this article is that no matter what background we have we all learn the same things just in different forms

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?	This connects to other readings I have had in only one way and that is literacy. We previously read about what literacy is now we read about how people learn it.

Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words	This article has one main point and that is to define the word “literacy.” That seems like a simple word for us because it just means the ability to read and write. But in this article the author describes literacy in a deep and very thought out way that most people do not think of. The author starts of by defining discourse. According to this article discourse means “a socially accepted association among ways of using language and acting that can identify oneself as a member of a social network.” In other words it means communication of thoughts by conversation with other people. Through out the article the author relates literacy to discourses because without the ability to read and write discourses would not be able to happen
