| Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words | In this article Deborah Brandt is describing the importance of literacy in the modern world today. Brandt uses the word “sponsors” to describe the agents that teach, model, and regulate literacy. Brandt discovered these sponsors through interviews with people talking about their own memories of when they were learning to read and write. Another point Brandt makes in this article is the importance of literacy. Brandt describes people learning literacy in the same way she explains why Little Leaguers sponsor a local insurance agency because we learn literacy to expand the things we can do and Little Leaguers were the patch to play baseball. Brandt also says that literacy is a valued commodity than can lead to financial success if used in the right way. |
