Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words

Within the text the author argues and describes that an argument is a dance, despite negative connotations. Furthermore, she argues that the appeals are key elements to create a good, supported, and successful argument. Through these appeals a writer can use them to persuade a person on something they once were so passionate about if used correctly. The text speaks levels and really gives the reader a good sense of what an argument should consist of and key elements to separate and destroy other arguments. For example, in this time of the year there’s a presidential debate. Because we are witnessing that we can depict that the topic brought up in the debate are very argumentative topics and because of this piece of writing we can tell who is using appeals correctly to persuade the audience that they better fit the position.

Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author.

Although the appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos were overviewed in high school. I completely forgot the meaning behind them. logos is hard evidence to prove an argument (data, statistics, common sense). In writing ethos is authority or credibility (using shared views on a topic from a higher education or power). Finally pathos is an appeal to the audiences soft side to persuade (emotions or feelings)

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?

From my own research, Ive been tuning in to the presidential debates. Because I will be voting I am looking for good candidates that will run the country the wrong way. I look at what the two are asked and how they respond to the questions and now I can see what appeals they use to try to persuade people of their vote. Even though its honestly chickens running with their heads cut off, I can now depict what appeal they are using and if it is factual and deserves my overall following.

Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion.

What appeal do you believe to be the most powerful and why?
