Growing up, I loved reading picture books every night before bed. Now, I don’t read as much as I like to. For me, it is hard to find the time to sit down to enjoy a book without being interrupted by something. When I was in elementary school, I used to read magazines and the newspaper every morning before school. This was one of the ways I actually learned to write, by reading the articles within those works of writing. Reading the Twitter threads from Kimmy, it brought back some memories from High School where we had discussed this issue in one of my english classes. We discussed how this same event has happened to kids within my class. It wasn’t until that discussion where I fully realized how this issue can affect people. One of the books that I have read, which I enjoyed a lot, that has also helped me reflect on my identity, race, and gender, was the novel Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow.
