Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words The opening paragraph talks about how writing and reading has changed within the years and how peoples literacy skills have also improved with time. It also mentions that literacy skills can also shift with new generations. For the past five years, Brandt has been tracing sponsors of literacy finding out how Americans recalled how they learned to read and write. In the passage, Brandt traces the dynamics of literacy sponsorship to  the life experiences of different individuals. In one of the people Brandt studied, Dora Lopez, she mentions that they had to travel several miles away just to access Spanish newspapers and magazines.  These magazines and newspapers carried information that was important and special to them. Lopez discusses how she taught herself Spanish and learned how to use computers by being sponsored by her surroundings and parents.

most typically in people’s memories of literacy learning: older relatives,

teachers, priests, supervisors, military officers, editors, influential authors.
