Interview:
I am with Jackson Buser, a member of RebelTHON and a recent participant in it as well. Jackson is a Freshman here at Ole Miss and I thought it would be a good idea to get a student’s perspective about RebelTHON so it would be more relatable to other students interested in it.
Questions:
- How did you become a member of RebelTHON?
- “I became a member of RebelThon because I had to join for my EDHE 106 class. However I was still interested in RebelThon and had been wanting to join for a while.”
- How long have you been a member?
- “I have been an active member since registration opened which was approximately opened a few months ago.”
- How does someone interested in RebelTHON become a part of it? How dod you receive information?
- “Someone can sign up on the website or with the registration link and begin fundraising. I received newsletters and emails as well as followed their twitter and instagram account to gain more information.”
- What are the main means of communication?
- “The main means of communication were with emails they would send about two times a week.”
- How do you interact with the previously stated means of communication?
- “I read the emails and liked instagram posts and checked their twitter on a regular basis to stay up to date.”
- How did you communicate with other members?
- “Volunteers at RebelTHON were able to hangout with patients of the hospital and their families and learn more about what the patients have gone through.”
- How do people gain authority in RebelTHON?
- “People gain authority by raising money. The more money you raise, the more prizes you receive. As a volunteer, we are all treated equally.”
- What did you do at RebelTHON?
- “At RebelTHON, we dance for the first 10 min of every hour and a bunch of staff members speak, a family will also speak to the volunteers and share their experiences. There are different rooms with different themes ex a carnival where you can play with kids, a hospital room where children’s testimonials are posted as well. “
- How would you encourage people to join?
- “Talk to them and tell them about rebelthon and everything about it like where the money goes and stuff like that”
- Would you do RebelTHON again?
- “Yes, it was a really fun learning experience and it was fulfilling to see the kids stories and to know where the money we fundraise goes to and how it impacts other people.”
- How likely are you to tell other students about RebelTHON?
- “10/10 very likely an experience he hopes every student gets a chance to experience.”
That concludes our interview for today. Thank you so much, Jackson, for taking the time to talk about this amazing event, RebelTHON, and I can’t wait to tell other people about your experience.
