What I saw and read is that being a part of a discourse community requires setting goals to be successful. I also read where Johns’s family had a discourse with the company AARP. Being a part of a discourse can be anything that you are involved with. I am involved with the Men’s basketball team here at Ole Miss. I set goals for myself to be the best student manager I can be. The first goal I have for myself is that I will make all A’s and B’s. Then my second goal is that I can be the best I can be athletically on the basketball court. Joining a college basketball team as a manager is the greatest community you can be in. I am also a part of the Wakefield discourse community because my goal as a Wakefield family member is to be the best person I can be. The main point I got from Johns’s article is that a discourse community can be anything on campus, outside of school, athletics, etc. You also have to stay involved in the community as well like going to practice, going to class, and doing your job correctly. Here are 5 discourse communities I am involved in: Ole Miss Men’s Basketball, Young Life, Chi Alpha, Wakefield Family, and The University of Mississippi.
