Title of Article + Proper MLA Citation for Works Cited page Putting Ethnographic Writing in

Context

Seth Kahn

Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words Kahn brought up great ways to do ethnographic writing by doing 5 steps. The first step was prewriting. Prewriting helps you form your draft and get your ideas for research. The second step was that you had to get your introductions/consent forms. This helps you give more information and how you do interviews. The third step was getting your interviews and asking your interviewees the questions you will ask. The fourth step is the journal step. This step will help you write your ideas and interviews and form it into your rough draft. The last and final step is your revising and editing. This step will help you get your thoughts together and make any changes you need to make for your final draft.
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author. I never knew what ethnographic writing was until I read this journal by Kahn. Now I have a full understanding of what ethnographic writing is and how important it is to our writing.

Letter to reader

Dear Mr. G,

My information that is most important for this draft is that my research from MP 1 because that is how I am going to do my interview. I will write some questions to ask my interviewee and get those answers. My process for working on this essay is that I used my research for my discourse community with the basketball team and use that for my essay. I used what I knew from basketball and how I got this position as a student manager for the team and used that to plan my essay. The steps I went through was that I first wrote my rough draft and then I read over my peer reviews and made the changes like making a second connection to my discourse community. Third, I wrote my final draft for MP 1.

Critical Thinking Reflection #1

  1. My information that is most important for this draft is that my research from MP 1 because that is how I am going to do my interview. I will write some questions to ask my interviewee and get those answers.
  2. Certain information needs to be left out because you can’t have too much information to have in your draft because it will become vague. Having too much information will already answer your question without your interviewee even answering it. I made these decisions by reading my peer reviews, and teacher comments of my rough draft.
  3. First, I had to decide what I was going to do my discourse community on and that was working with the Ole Miss men ‘s basketball team. Second, I explained how my connection got me into this position and how I interviewed. Last and final step of the research process was that I wrote about what I do for the team and explained how I am going to do my interview.
  4. I made a lot of biases and assumptions within my research and I learned a lot of new things being a part of the Men’s basketball team. I also learned how to work with coaches, players, and Graduate assistants.

Title of Article + Proper MLA Citation for Works Cited page Introduction to Primary Research: Observations, Surveys, and Interviews by Dana Lynn Driscoll
Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words In Driscoll’s journal of primary research I learned how important research is and to do it the right way. Driscoll states that research is different from field to field. For example engineering majors have to do all kinds of research for their projects. Also she expresses in the beginning of the article that research is very important to start a project, interview, or podcast. Research is also important so you can value your information and back up your information in your research. Driscoll also states that all research must include observations because we need to observe what we are searching.
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author. I found a lot of new terms when it comes to primary research. Those terms are: Voluntary Participation, Confidentiality and anonymity and Researcher bias. Voluntary participation is that you have to get permission to do your research. Confidentiality and anonymity means that your peers could have inappropriate words in your research and you need to make sure you don’t have that. Researcher bias is that you have to be taking notes from the data you collect.

Title of Article + Proper MLA Citation for Works Cited page Assessing Source Credibility for Crafting a Well-Informed Argument; Kate Warrington, Natasha Kovalyova, and Cindy King
Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words King states that we should always start with research into crafting a well-informed argument. They also state that we should use evidence to back up our research in our papers. They also state a great example using ASPCA as an emotional appeal to our papers and it helped me have a better understanding of assessing the source bias. They also express how to evaluate the argument by the author’s support of the argument. This journal gives you the exact steps to write a good argument and use good research in our essays. We all need to know how to do an analysis and research essays and I’m glad to read this journal.
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author. Having research papers is much more than research, you have to have conversations with what you are writing and have to take the time to get it done. I also learned that research papers have to have strong evidence to what you are researching.

Reading Journal Giles

Reading Journal

In Giles’ Journal I saw great ways to do reflective writing. The first way was how to structure a letter and how to do it professionally. Second, I saw how to write a good reflective essay and how to write it in good detail. These skills are very important in good writing because you can become better at writing with detail. Also Giles expresses that she wrote a letter and gave her points of detail to back up the letter. She also claims that she would like us to follow her steps into writing a good formatted letter. This is important because writing a good letter can get you places you want to go.

Some new terms I saw that were new to me was how to format a reflective essay paper. Giles gave some good advice about writing a reflective paper and how important it is into our writing.

Research Paper Edits

The first paper I read about the S.P.I.T. organization was a good detailed paper. The strongest aspects of that paper was the organization of the paper. Another strong aspect of the paper was the quotes from Dirk that was used to backup his claim. I also saw spaced out paragraphs which was good and good detail in the Interview. A weak aspect I read was in the third paragraph during the interview where the writer says that it will be in Houston. I found this part weak because the writer needs to write the city and the state. In the second paper I saw a lot more weak aspects than strong. The first weak aspect I saw was the structure of the paper, the details did not flow well with the paper. I saw some good quotes but the quotes did not backup the organization when they were used in the paper. A strong aspect I saw was the conclusion in the second paper it was great and it backed up the thesis.

Letter to #Selfie

The way I describe myself as a writer is that I am a detailed writer that gives great information. I also give my thoughts that are straight to the point and is clear to what the essay is about. Some things I need to work on is using the correct grammar and punctuation. I need to work on this to become a better writer because good writers know how to use good grammar and punctuation. The time I felt successful as a writer is at the end of last semester when I wrote my final paper. I had everything put together and wrote a good reflection essay! I felt really good about how I’ve improved as a writer. Some areas that I could work on with Mr. G is that I need to know how to use punctuation in the right places. Sometimes I use unnecessary commas and semicolon’s.  My learning style is a lot different than other students because I have a learning disability and it causes me to take more time to get things done.
