I personally feel like women still are not respected in todays society. Men love to claim that women and men are equal now but that is nowhwere near the truth. As a women, during my elementary, middle school and high school life we always read books by strong man writers. Do not get me wrong they were great books but I wish I had been introduced to more female writers as a child. I feel like because of gender women in the writing world are always swept under the rug and never given enough credit for their work. Which is not okay, personally I have also experienced this. Last year for my Senior Writing Project I did the topic of “Sex trafficking across the Texas & Mexican borders” only one person in our grade could do this topic so since I picked it first I naturally thought I could write on this topic. However, three weeks later I hear about a guy in our grade doing the same topic as me. Naturally I was upset so we presented this to the teachers and they decided who got to write on this topic. My English teacher said “We should just let him do it because he is a better writer and you never hear about famous writers writing about this topic.” I was so upset about what the teacher said but I still went with the topic even though I was not aloud to. I ended up receiving the “Best Message” award at my graduation for my Senior Project. And the boy who was suppose to do the same topic failed his project.

Podcast Round Table Reflection

  1. I think two pieces of advice I would give would be take more writing heavy courses throughout high school and to make sure you understand what type of writing your teachers like ahead of time. Make sure you understand what you need ahead of time and do not do things last minute.
  2. The thing I am most excited about is making new friends and new memories since I am so far away from home. The thing I am least excited about is how everything is getting affected by covid and how we will not have a true freshman experience.
  3. The advice I would give is make sure that you are using your resources to the most you possibly can. Another piece of advice is do not stress too much on your ACT and SAT score as long as you have good grades and are in many clubs you will get into the college of your choosing. Do not take high school for granted make the most of everything before it really gets hard in college.
