I define a writer as anyone using written words to communicate with others or to create a piece of work. A writer produces works such as novels ,short stories, books, poetry ,essays, songs, and many other other texts that can be seen on or in different formats. As a writer, I feel as if I am good at organizing what I want to write about but not great at revising or the grammatical part of the process. On most of my writing assignments, I received great feedback on my topics and the information I was using but lacked the grammatical skills. An example of this is my rough draft of our first major project about our literacy sponsors. From both Professor Gillespie and my peer group, I was told my information and set up were great but my grammatical mistakes were ruining my writing. This was also the case for Major Project 4. I feel as an writer I am growing but I am better at organizing information than editing my writing.
“10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation”
The video “10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation” goes into detail about how most people do not communicate well with others and how it is affecting us as people. The video is led by Celeste Headlee, a radio host who has been communicating on the radio with the media for years. In the TedTalk she explains the ten helpful tips for having a conversation. The ten tips are : not to multitask, don’t pontificate, use open ended questions, go with the flow, if you don’t know say that you don’t know, don’t equate your experience with theirs, try not to repeat yourself, stay out of the weeds, listen, and to be brief. The two points I find most helpful for my own life and conversations is to go with the flow and if you don’t know, say you don’t know. By going with the flow we will not repeat questions and stop listening to the person speaking. Saying you don’t know is also good because you can make sure you’re not saying things that are not true.
rhetorical analysis
Don’t be afraid of Covid?!
You’ve been under round-the-clock care by the best doctors using the best drugs. Do you really think everyone has access to that?!
Sadly, I’m sure you’re aware of that disparity, you just don’t care
This is reckless to a shocking degree, even for you https://t.co/H8CGlD9DcZ
— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) October 5, 2020
The social media post that I have chosen to analyze the rhetoric of is actor Chris Evans’ response to President Donald Trump’s tweet about his condition after staying at Walter Reed Medical Center with the Corona Virus and how American’s should not be afraid of Covid-19. Chris Evans’ is an actor best known for his role as Steve Rogers or Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or (MCU) films. Evans’ is also known for being critical of President Trump. Chris Evans’ is followed by 14.1 million individuals on his Twitter profile, while President Donald Trump is followed by 31.6 on his respective Twitter profile.
The United States and most of the World is still battling the deadly pandemic known as Coronavirus Disease 2019 or Covid-19. As of October 5th, 2020, The United States had accumulated over 7.49 million cases and around 210 thousand deaths related to the virus respectively. Although many are taking the virus seriously, some are still downplaying the deadly effects of the virus in the United States. Our own President, Donald Trump, has downplayed the seriousness of the virus on multiple occasions. Chris Evans’ intended audience was aimed at his own audience that is largely his fans and his Democratic followers.
Evans’ disputes President Donald Trump’s claim that American’s should not fear the Coronavirus. The Tweet mostly relates to pathos. Evan’s wants his readers and followers under that although the President claims that the virus is not serious and that he is in great health, not everyone has access to the same medical care. To accomplish this the writer explains how the president was under around the clock care at Walter Reed Medical Center using the best doctors and medicines that are not accessible to everyday people. Evans’ uses the pathos to make his followers understand how President Donald Trump is downplaying the accessible health care disparity between the wealthy and the poor in the United States. By using negative phrases and words such as, “This is reckless to a shocking dress, even for you,” Evans’ is pointing out that this is an ongoing problem with the country and President Donald Trump. The debate of whether the virus is being taken too seriously or not taking the virus serious enough. His pathos are shown by saying how everyone does not have access to world class medical care like the president. Evans’ wants his readers to understand that the President is more worried about his own prosperity than those of the people he is supposed to be leading.
Actor Chris Evans’ main purpose of responding to President Donald Trump’s tweet was to explain to his followers that the president is downplaying the effects of the Coronavirus. By using pathos the writer is explaining the President’s incompetence on the issue and how he is misleading the American people.

1.Aces are experiences faced by a child that can include both physical and emotional abuse. This includes neglect by guardians and household violence. Without support from adults this can lead to toxic stress in children. Toxic stress is prolonged stress activated in children due to ACES that can have long term effects both physically and mentally in a child.
2.Poverty, racism, and community violence can negatively impact a child’s development. They can lead to poorer health both mentally and physically in children. The stress of living in these environments at home can cause children to stress and act out in educational environments. They have less opportunities thus causing them to fall back into the cycle of inequality.
3.Children with ACEs are more likely to have below average academic skills that include poor literacy skills. They typically experience social problems and problems in schools that put them at risk for poor academic performances.
What the eyes don’t see
- Dr. Mona’s actions helped bring awareness to the water situation in the Flint,Michigan area. She has been effective in helping the cause. She has helped pipes be changed throughout the city for the residents. By helping with the water situation, she is helping fix a city that is full of toxic stress due to poverty.
- During high school I made others in my community and high school aware of the declining health of many high school students. Growing up in a small community mental health was not a heavy topic of discussion. I started a meeting group where students were allowed to speak with parents, faculty, and administrators about the stressors that high school students face on a daily basis during the year.
- As an individual to make the world safer and better we could all communicate with each other on topics that affect the masses. By coming together with groups we can help save ourselves and others from different situations.

3.It is a warm Sunday night in August in the quiet suburbs of Blue Mountain, Mississippi. Sunflower decor litters the cozy living room. The sweet smell of snickerdoodle fills the air trickling from the kitchen, through the halls, down the stairs, and finally settling in the air surrounding the black letter recliner that sat catty-corner in the den. Board games cover the floor, a signature look for the weekly family game night. Children and adults alike file into the room and begin the weekly battle of what gets played first begins. Nonna San has taken her usual spot it the recliner with the youngest grandchild, Miracle, perched upon the arm of the recliner with a leapfrog reader. She was paying more attention to the game played in front of her. Miracle catches the eye of her mother, Shirlyn, and quickly retreats to her story. This is a common occurrence during, not just game night, but every night. Oh, the irony a child in a home filled with literature but refuses to read any of it. Her mother remembers her struggles learning literacy and always keeps her only child on track. As she continues growing up, Miracle begins to realize why her mother worked so hard to make her literate and broaden her education. All of her mother Shirlyn’s hard work led Miracle to graduate with honors and now attend her dream college.
