How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?

This article connects to a book I read during high school that talked about how literacy differs through different societies and social classes.
Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion. Should all people have the same access to literacy?

#1000BlackGirlBooks or Tough Teen or the Twitter thread Blog Post

As a black child in the south, I was rarely allowed to read stories about people of my race. It harmed my identity as an African American woman. It caused me to try and hid my identity to fit in with my prominently white school and athletic organizations. I forgot who I was and what my ancestors had fought for. I connect with Kimberly Yam’s Twitter thread. I understand what it is like to reject your culture to fit in with your surroundings and social normals. I am fighting and will continue fighting to reclaim my culture. After studying the race war in America, I have started learning who I am and why I want to be Black.

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?

While taking English Composition 2 senior year, I did research on how the term “improper english” is a defamatory term. I wrote about how one’s accent does not show his or her intelligence.
Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion. Why do some associate a non-american accent or someone speaking a forgien language as inferior even though we live in a melting pot country.

FASTrack/Writ 101 Round Table

A piece of advice that I believe will be particularly helpful during college is spacing out my classes, therefore giving myself time to work. I tend to stress myself out over assignments. I believe it is from not giving myself enough time to complete my work without cramming. By spacing out my classes and work, I will perform better in my courses. Another piece of advice that I will be using during college is that I should take advantage of all the free resources available on campus. By taking advantage of the FastTrack resources on campus, I will never have to worry about my grades suffering because I can not find assistance. I am most looking forward to joining various organizations such as a greek organization, ASB, and SAA. I am not looking forward to school being in an online format. One thing I stress to incoming high school seniors is that another day is not guaranteed. After having half my senior year taken away due to the pandemic, I understand the regrets of not doing more during my time in high school.
