Even though “A Vision of Students Today” was created over 9 years ago its message is still applicable today. In a majority of my classes for my major we don’t collaboration as much as classes for my minor in professional writing. I believe in a mixture of both collaboration and independent work, both of these have their advantages depending on the situation and style of the class. When completing work for school I rely heavily on Blackboard and Google to access assignments and readings for class. In my personal life I use my smartphone more than my laptop. The apps I use during my personal time include the popular ones like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. One of the apps/websites that overlap with school and personal life is GroupMe. I use GroupMe to communicate with classmates for school as well as my fraternity. In 8 years I believe the “vision of students” will be much different. Technology will continue to innovate and change the way students learn in and out of the classroom. Use websites like Google and Blackboard for example, these two have transformed not only how students interact with each other but also how they learn. The process of learning has transition primarily from an in class experience to one that can be done anywhere. As technological innovations continue to shape not only how but also where we learn I believe “A Vision of Students Today” will become more and more antiquated.

“The process of learning has transition primarily from an in class experience to one that can be done anywhere”– do you think something is lost when that happens? If technology allows you to connect to your classmates and the instructor, does the physical space really matter?
