Traditional and Non-Traditional Learning

I really don’t like non-traditional learning environments, but I’m glad that they’re an option to people who do. I enjoy going to class and getting face to face time with teachers and students, I find I’m more motivated to not only complete my work but to try and do better in the class. When I’ve had to complete online classes I feel like I’m less motivated to excel and instead just do the bare minimum to get by.

I believe that there are advantages to non-traditional learning environments like the ability to learn at your own pace. Some days you may be too busy to sit down and take time out of your schedule to learn a new topic. Another advantage is the ability to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting. For students that have to commute long distances or those who work during regular class hours, this provides the opportunity to attain the same education you could in a classroom from wherever you

A disadvantage to these non-traditional learning environments is, like I’ve previously stated, the lack of motivation to see a task through. The article mentioned that only 20% of the students actually finish a course. I think the monotony of staring at a computer screen and the lack of in class stimulation from teachers and students has something to do with the low percentage of students that complete the course.

I have had to use an online class before for a class I needed but wasn’t able to fit into my schedule.  As I’m sure you can guess, I didn’t like it.
