The open source software I chose was Mozilla Firefox. Open source is any website or software that can be modified and shared by users and it’s design is publicly accessible. Firefox is an Internet browsers that can be compared to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or Apple’s Safari. Firefox can be used in higher education to access any website like blackboard or our blogs. Teachers can even use it to access YouTube videos to supplement in-class lectures. Firefox has many add-ons that can easily be downloaded online to customize the browser; other browsers don’t have as many. Some weaknesses of Firefox are the speed at which it loads websites and it’s not always compatible with every computer. Internet Explorer, a Microsoft program, works better with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint than Firefox does.
