Binge-Watching Shows

I often binge watch tv shows on a variety of streaming services. I find myself spending a good chunk of my nights binge-watching TV. Shows that keep me watching include Criminal Minds, Blue Mountain State, Family Guy, American Dad, Law and Order, and sometimes mystery Sci-Fi shows. When I am a goofy happy mood I tend to lean more toward Family Guy and American Dad, but when I feel like learning I watch crime shows, because I like to put myself in their shoes and try to solve the crime before they do. Danielle’s thesis is that bing-watching tv produces the same chemicals that are related to the feelings experienced by taking drugs, “dopamine”. This is why watching TV feels so good, but watching too much of it can be dangerous, we all know the effects watching too much TV can have on our brains. Danielle’s arguments are effective due to the facts that she states facts to back up and support her claims.

Second Week Thoughts

Captains Log, week two. I am tired, every morning I have to get up at five AM for conditioning and weight room. I don’t get done until 11:30. After that I have study hall from 1-3 except on MWF when I have writing class from 2-2:50. Some days those are all accompanied by tutoring from 4-5. It is all very exhausting to say the least.

Foods and Cultural Identities

The food we eat can define if we are healthy and smart with our life choices, but sometimes economic factors can come into play. Some people can’t afford most fruits or vegetables, or fresh meat. At most they can afford a two dollar burger from McDonalds, and a Happy Meal. I personally like to eat a lot of pasta, steak, and seafood. My ability to try foods from different cultures vary. I like Mexican food a lot, I am not particularly sure why but I love it. Foods like Greek, some Asian, Indian, Russian, and Northern European disgusts me.  The strangest food I have ever eaten would be squid.

Dialect Quiz Thoughts

The quiz predicts that I am from the Deep South, which is correct, but it says my answers are most related to Alabama or Georgia, but I am from New Orleans. It is very well known that people from New Orleans have a very distinct way of talking, from our accents, speech, and vocabulary. Growing up my parents wanted me to “learn to speak properly”, in order to be taken more seriously in the work force. So my vocabulary isn’t quite like regular New Orleanians, but some questions and answers hit right at home. For example the map showed that only New Orleans calls the grass in the streets the Neutral Ground.

Self-Assessment 102 Dr. Dunkin

I am a very creative and imaginative as a writer. If I am told to write anything non-fiction the thoughts just flow through my veins like blood. My greatest weaknesses as a writer are tying things back to an article or relating two things together.  Research papers are also a weak point for me. The most stressful part of writing for me are big research  papers. I always worry that I will not have enough to write so I tend to get off topic just to fill in space. I would love to be able to write better research papers and reflective responses.

Rhetorical Analysis

In my rhetorical analysis I will be analyzing a post from Paige Beuckers’ Instagram. Paige was a top recruited basketball player her senior year (2020), she now attends The University of Conneticut .  Having been such a decorated high school basketball player, Paige has a very large fanbase. She has won multiple state championships, multiple MVP awards, McDonalds All American, and played for the high school team USA all four years of high school. Paige is a Caucasian female and has a younger African-American brother. After the death of George Floyd, Paige took to Instagram and posted picture of her little brother captioning ” at what point do people stop seeing my little brother as a cute innocent  child, and start seeing him as a threat to  society, it honestly scares me”.

Rhetorical Situations Blog Post

In this article Grant-Davie states that a rhetorical situation is a situation in which a speaker or writer sees a need to change reality and sees that the change may be effected through rhetorical discourse. He discuses the steps a student should take to analyze rhetorical situations.

What Is A Writer

A writer is a person who has written a particular text.  As a writer I tend to be very creative and imaginative. The prompt of my writing tends to determine how I write.   If the prompt is a free write I can write for days. My brain will just get to working and will not stop for hours. If the prompt is text analyzation my brain goes numb , and can not spit out any ideas. For examples this piece of writing my brain is dull and numb.  Source 1 “Google Definitions” Source 2 “The Free Dictionary”.

Compassion Blog

During this hard time of corona, most students have found it easier to stay connected  with their families, but for me I have found it hard. I have found myself to be very busy throughout the semester. I rarely have time to contact my family. When I am not at a six hour practice, I am either studying, in class, eating, or busy with other things. I have family that lives in Oxford and I barely even get to see or talk to them either. I visit them sometimes, but can also go days or even weeks without stopping by.  I need to find more ways to be able to see and talk to my family more. I should start planning out when I am available and sacrifice some social time for family time.
