What Is Literacy to you

To me, literacy is a form of expression. I believe what one writes comes from deep inside of their soul, fiction or non-fiction, people write what they feel and believe, unless they are BS’ing an assignment. Their are many rules in literacy we must follow, like punctuation, formatting, etc. The definition of literacy is the ability to write and read.  I am focusing on the writing part of literacy. When someone writes a fictional book they are using the inner-mist depths of their creativity and putting what they imagine onto paper. One Literary Sponsor of mine is my Father. He inspired my to become a better writer by showing me what a great writer is at such a young age. He helped show me a goal to reach for, and set me on the path to achieve it. When I three years-young my father would write stories to me from the military base in Texas. I loved reading them, they were so creative and imaginative, they brought me into my own little world, as if I had stepped into the Gates of Narnia. As most kids do, I wanted to be just like my father and his writing, I wanted to be able to bring people into their own little world.

The Makers Eye

In The Makers Eye, Murray says that the difference in attitude is the difference between an amateur writer and a professional writer. As writers we have to be excepting of criticism. We have to let go of our self pride when it comes to writing and be able to take someone else’s ideas, but also put your own craftsmen ship in what feedback they are giving you. Ego is a very important tool in writing, you must make your voice heard. Rewriting is also an important trait to have in order to become a more professional writer. As a writer you have to know what audience you’re trying to write for, and make sure they will enjoy what you write. After that you have to make sure you have the appropriate form, and structure to make sure what you have to is in order. Once you have a draft with a subject, audience, form, structure, development, dimension, and tone, you are now ready to edit line-by-line.  You have to read and reread each word of your writing to make sure it is absolute perfection.

Daily Blog Post

James Paul Gee discusses how video games can teach us teamwork and problem solving abilities. He uses the game “Portal”, which teaches physics in order to complete and succeed in the game. Gee states when people  do not care about what an outcome is they will try less harder to get there, and think less. You need to be able to bring experience to the learner or student. Gee also states that if schools started integrating   different learning techniques that appeal more to the learner, they will learn better.
