Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words | Dirk explains the importance of genre when it comes to writing. I honestly never connected the word genre to writing, whenever I have heard the word genre, I always think of music as I am a music lover. Once I had read a few pages in I realized how relevant genre is to reading and writing. When I was forced to read in k-12, I always chose to read out of the mystery genre section. Dirk tells us how important knowing the genre is to writing. Using the same example as Dirk, one could not write a country song without understanding the genre of country. Knowing the genre helps you not only know what vocabulary to use but also how to format your writing. |
Define new terms and concepts by quoting or paraphrasing the original author. | “all genres matter because they shape our everyday lives”

How does this reading connect to other articles from class and/or your own research?
|
I do not have any articles I can connect this to, however, I think it resembles knowing your audience. Knowing your audience is just important as the genre as to me they seem to go hand in hand. |
Based on the reading, craft one question to act as a springboard for class discussion. | Does the audience or genre matter more? |
