The first essay I analyzed was about this organization called SPIT. The strong points of this essay were that the writer explained the organization in great detail from how it started to what it is all about. The sources were used correctly and fit the topic of the essay. The usage of the bold headers gave an introduction to what that passage was about. The only weakness I saw was it was very lengthy and the writer could have summarized more. The essay was organized with bold text for the paragraphs and gave a list of the genres of the organization. The sources used were Navigating Genres by Dirk Kerry, a personal interview with Sean Glatch a member of SPIT, Discourse Communities and Communities of Practice by Ann M. Johns and the SPIT Facebook page. The second essay was about the Puerto Rican Student Association. The strong points of this essay were the pictures of the association and the use of sequencers. The writer also used the sources correctly and explained the association in depth. The only weakness I found was some repetition of a phrase used in the interview. The organization of the paragraph used sequencers and the pictures of the association. The sources used were The Concept of Discourse Community by John Swales, The Puerto Rican Student Association constitution, Navigating Genres by Dirk Kerry and Discourse Communities and the Communities of Practice by Ann M Johns.
