Gee, James, James Paul Gee on Learning With Video Games |
Summarize the article — include your reaction, thoughts, anything to help you remember its claims. 100 to 150 words | James Gee begins to explain what is literacy. He explains that literacy is the secondary control of language. He does this by showing the differences between acquisition and learning. Acquisition is being exposed to learning something. Learning is just teaching something step by step. He states that literacy is the combination of the two and gives an example in how that can come into play. One particular example is when he was explaining how literacy is somewhat like playing a video game in a YouTube video. He tells the audience that many learn how to play the game by reading the manual. Instead, he starts playing the game very poorly. This is the reason that he wants students to start being exposed to literacy first hand than just learning it. |
