1. What is the filmmaker’s purpose? Explain. I think that the filmmakers purpose is to show us that what we think were eating tends to be a lot more than what the labels say. He is showing us how we can be lied to with calories. He is also stating why post the amount of calories if they are not accurate.
2. Who is the filmmaker’s audience? Explain. I feel like the filmmakers audience is all Americans.
3. How does the filmmaker incorporate audience-based appeals (logos, ethos, and pathos)? Be specific. For Ethos, he gathered information which allowed him to speak on this topic. For Logos, he did research and than created an argument. Lastly for Pathos, he was talking to the audience about what he has gathered, and opened us to things we did not know about.
4. In what specific ways is this Op-Doc different from “Toys of War”? Explain. I think that it is different because the Toys of War was coming strictly from experience of what the kids had been going through.
Great observations! What rhetorical appeal do you think Berends is using by showing the children speak firsthand about their experiences?
