Blog Post: Define a Writer

Personally, I would define myself as a creative and thought out writer. I believe that when I truly am writing about something that I care about and am passionate about I truly use my creativity to its fullest. I think I have become a very thoughtful writer, where I have become very organized in planning out my writing and what I intend to write about. I believe I definitely have become a better writer this year and while I still make some minor spelling mistakes here and there, overall, I have most definitely become a better writer. In terms of the specifics I think that from a creativity point of view- I have expanded my vocabulary and my transitions to make thoughts flow more effectively. I think expanding my vocabulary was definitely something that makes my writing unique. Sometimes I over do the vocabulary and make my essays sound like I wrote it directly from a thesaurus, but overall I have definitely become better in balancing my use of vocabulary.

WRIT 101

  1. Adverse Childhood Experiences are events that occur in one’s childhood that may impose psychological, mental, or emotional stress, problems, or illnesses down the line.
  2. Adversities such as poverty, racism, and violence can have extreme problems for a child’s development. Racism can cause children to grow up living like they feel like they have done something wrong or bad because of the color of their skin. Poverty can force children to grow up early and lose out on the ability to enjoy childhood. Violence is the ultimate ACE in my opinion, because I know people who are affected by this. My best friend during my freshman and sophomore years of high school lived in a neighborhood of Chicago that was flooded with violence. His own cousin lost his life as a result of that violence. He went to my school because his parents wanted him as far away from that violence as they could get him. Something I noticed very early on into our friendship was his defensiveness. He would never let himself relax when he was in public and used to be constantly terrified that a shooting was going to breakout. While he fortunately has lost those tendencies now and is much more normal and relaxed, it was really sad to see at the time.
  3. ACE’s can have extreme effect on literacy as they can cause emotional, mental, and psychological distractions. These ACE’s are so powerful that they sometimes take over a child’s life and become the only thing that child can focus on or worry about.

WRIT 101

August 17th 2020

For my MP2 I plan on writing about the ethical dilemmas that face the people of flint, the people in control of flint, and the people viewing flint from the outside.

  1. Dr. Mona’s actions helped the town of Flint Michigan because she recognized what was wrong with Flint and went out and raised awareness for the problem. She brought in outside help and attention as well as bringing it to the attention of people with the power to make changes there.
  2. Personally, no. But there is one example that effected me. I went to a selective private catholic high school in the city of Chicago that was extremely diverse (40% white, 40% black, 10% hispanic, 10% asian). Because our school was so selective and tuition was very expensive, there were a lot of upper class families in our school. Unfortunately some of these students from upper class families who were legacy families at our school, thought they could do whatever they want and get away with it. Particularly there was a lot of accusations of racism that many classmates of mine accused other students of. By calling out the other students, my classmates who are BIPOC made a change in our school community and raised awareness for some of the behavior of our classmates.
  3. As individuals, we can all make the world a better place by calling out injustices or abuses of power when we see them.
