Analyzing the Analysis Paper

This unit went pretty well in my opinion. We shall see how the grades turn out. I worked really hard trying to make use of the rhetorical elements and the analysis seemed to come pretty easily. My main struggle was trying to revise my paper. I had a friend from back home look over it for me and unfortunately she took until the last possible minute to send it back to me. This would have been fine if I had expected this, but I sent it to her early Monday morning. I understand that things come up, but it was not fun waiting for it when I wanted to be asleep thursday night. It all worked out in the end, but I was very stressed about it because I am not good at editing my own work.

The analysis of the talk came pretty natural to me and I have no idea why. It could have been that I like to nitpick things? I really enjoyed getting to watch my talk and understand what she was talking about at a deeper level because of the rhetorical elements. This paper lended itself to a predetermined structure which made it so much less stressful. A common thought in my head when writing papers is “when do I start a new paragraph?????” It makes me so stressed because I overanalyze myself and my work, so I will rethink if I made the right choice for about ten minutes after I make my decision.

If I had had more time I would have done exactly the same thing. I feel like I had the right amount of time for this assignment. I was able to get my last draft before the final done by Monday, which gave me plenty of time to edit. I am proud of this paper and feel that I did my best. I do not think that I would have done anything different even if I had more time.

I have done plenty of analysis papers, but never on a video. I have always analyzed books, but the process was very similar. My Junior year of high school was all about reading books and writing an inclass essay with a specific prompt. To prepare for the essays we would fill out an element chart that was similar to the NAMLE framework. This would help us have a better understanding of the story and have more evidence for our claim.

I think I did a really good job of blending in the personal aspects of why this talk was important to me. I think I had very good evidence to support my claims and plenty of analysis of the evidence. I put quite a bit of effort into my paper, especially into trying to find the best video. I probably watched my video about 10 times over the course of this assignment. I worked on it regularly, but not to the point that I felt overworked. I really enjoyed this assignment.

Doing the inclass write was a HUGE help for me because it forced me to get my ideas on the paper and create a basic structure. I am pretty good about planning what I want to do for an inclass write than I am for an out of class work. I think it could be because I have more time to revise an out of class paper so I do not feel as inclined to plan ahead for it.

I discovered that I am more of a feminist than I thought myself to be. I have always cared about women’s rights, but this project actually made me want to get involved and be the one to change things. I am excited to see if and how this paper will change my future!
