Multimodal vs. Academic Papers

The main connection I see between the multimodal project and the other types of writing is that you are trying to convince your audience of something. This project was similar to the analysis paper that we did at the beginning of the year but this time we were turning a paper into something else. In my analysis paper, I talked about the use of colors and certain images in the ad and when we were making our documentary we thought hard about what colors things were and what exactly we wanted to include. The multimodal project will help me in future papers because I got an idea of what some different ways I can try to convince my readers of my thesis. Multimodal projects allow for a clearer image than an academic paper because in a paper you have to try to create an image in your reader’s head and sometimes they see it differently than how you intended. In a video, you can show them exactly the image you want to convey. In a paper, the creativity lies in the way you form your sentences and the images you create with your words. Whereas in a multimodal project, the creativity is how you incorporate your ideas into something that is pleasing to the eye. Papers almost have to be creative because if it is not the paper is boring and bland with just facts and analysis. A writer has to be creative to entice the reader and make them want to learn about what the writer is saying.
