I really enjoyed this project. I have done plenty of powerpoint assignments where I had to get up and present, but without the presentation, the powerpoint would make little to no sense. For this assignment though we had to make sure our Sway could stand on its own, without any explanation. I had a lot of fun finding images to incorporate and spent way too much time on Giphy, but I am very happy with my final draft.
I did have a little trouble deciding what to put in from my essay and what to leave out. I am a very wordy person, so I like to talk way too much. I tend to use more words than necessary to get my point across, so for this project, I had to work hard to use the best parts of my argument paper. I spent most of my time deciding what to take out and what to put in, so I hope that I decided correctly.
I do not think I would have done anything differently if I had had more time. I truly believe that I did a really good job with this project. Maybe if I had had an extra week or so I would have tried to expand my argument paper and maybe find or create some sort of data to back up my claims, but that would be it.
I have not done anything quite like Sway before. I have made Prezis and other presentations, but Sway is a nice alternative. Prezi has always been way too confusing to me, and Powerpoints just do not seem to get the meaning across in the way Sway does. The way Sway incorporates the images and videos and anything else you want to put in makes it much easier to use. I learned about the importance of images with this project. People have always said a picture is worth a thousand words, but I never realized how true that was, until this assignment. I had to find the perfect image to capture what I was trying to say to keep my audience engaged with my presentation.
I think that I did a good job at finding images that really captured what my argument was about. Most of the images were different than the run of the mill stock photos that are all over the web. I think that this showed a deeper understanding of what I wanted to convey. I incorporated many different types of media, videos, images, gifs, and I think that they really added to my presentation. I especially like my video about the symptoms of anxiety and panic disorders because it uses a software that draws the images while there is a voiceover explaining what is happening.
I put a substantial amount of time into this project, especially for finding media to incorporate. I tried to push past what I knew would work and actually make it a great presentation.
Working on this project in class helped a lot because there was so much else going on this week. I did really like going over what elements of design work best and I think that writing the artist statement made me think deeper about what I was putting into my Sway.
I discovered that I really like working on projects that are more than the normal paper. I get bored easily so having something else to work on made it that much more exciting.
