Euro vs. the Dollar

This week’s article is about the Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell’s, views on the Euro and the dollar. It starts out talking about how his outlook on the economy has been strengthened since December, which will help calm relations between the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank. The ECB has been worried since the Euro appreciated 20% versus the dollar last year, which could wreck the already fragile European economy. There was worry that the recent “twin peaks” in the Euro against the dollar meant that the Euro was likely to start a decline soon.

This is important because it shows how much a currency’s strength is related to the strength of other currencies. The worry surrounding the Euro shows that people are still worried about what the Euro can do for the European economy.
