Discussion Form: Media vs Society

I am asking the question “How do you think the media is portraying society?” As I continue to read my article from the book and watch the television show that corresponds with the article, I began to realize how much the media is shaping our view of society. As I being to truly think about this idea, I have discovered how truthful that is. So much of our media today is exaggerated and far from the truth most of the times. But why do we continue to support that?

  1. When I was working on my cause and effect argument paper, there was a huge media impact on my research. No matter what you search on the web, there are plenty different opinions, agendas and focuses on one particular issue. The one thing that stayed consistent through out my research was how society portrayed society. Time and time again, I came across news reports, journals and opinion documents that highlighted society in a negative way more than positive. This helped me realize that it is sometimes necessary to really dig for a text that makes society look positive in order to have a well rounded argument/perspective. I want to apply emphasis on “really dig”. I continued to have a hard time finding this type of text, thus drawing the conclusion that media portrays society in a negative light.
